3 Tips For National Healthy Skin Month

Nov 18, 2019 3 Tips For National Healthy Skin Month

November is National Healthy Skin Month, but your skin deserves to be healthy every month. The skin is the largest organ you have and it’s your first line of defense against the elements.

We’re biased, but we think the skin is the coolest aspect of the human body. Here are a few tips for how to treat your skin the right way all year.

1) If You Shave, Do It Properly

There are plenty of shaving tips available, but the key is to focus less on the price of your razors and products and more on the techniques you’re using.

It’s best to shave after you’ve already showered before your skin is completely dry. Use a mold shaving gel or cream and make sure your razor is relatively sharp. You’ll also want to wet your razor often and shave with the grain.

These basic strategies will help you avoid breakouts if you struggle with acne or sensitive skin. Sensitive skin shaving cream can also help.

2) Use Petroleum Jelly

You don’t need to spend a lot of money on products to have a good skincare routine. Petroleum jelly (commonly referred to as Vaseline) is an affordable option (Less than $3 at Target!) that has a variety of benefits.

This common solution can be used to relieve dry skin, help cuts and scrapes heal, and reduce rashes and chaffing. Just don’t use it on your face too often, because it can clog the pores.

3) General Skin Care Advice

Whether you’re trying to reduce wrinkles or you’re looking for a general regimen to maintain healthy skin, there are some common ways to get results.

We’ve mentioned it often in our blogs, but it’s best to avoid too much exposure to the sun and wear sunscreen every day. Sorry to be a downer, but tanning just isn’t healthy even if you think it looks good. Sun exposure ages your skin exponentially.

If you are 20 years old, you may not think much about it, but the effects of over-exposure on your skin can make you look older than your age when you wish you could look younger! If you want the “tan skin” look without damaging your skin, try a self-tanning product!

The other big thing is to wash your skin and face daily with gentle cleansers. Use warm water rather than hot water when showering with a gentle soap or cleanser, such as Dove.

Moisturize daily after a shower to avoid getting dry, flaky skin. While you’re at it, feel free to moisturize your skin throughout the entire day. The more hydrated your skin is, the more likely you’ll be to reduce the signs of aging and keep your skin healthy.
