5 Easy Tips to Minimize Wrinkles
Feb 23, 2021
There are many opinions on how to fight wrinkles as we age. The truth is, you can’t completely prevent or eliminate wrinkles, but you can take steps to minimize them!
Wrinkles happen after years of sun exposure along with each person’s genetics, skin elasticity and a variety of other factors. Here are a few ways to help reduce fine lines and wrinkles:
1) Sunscreens, Moisturizers, and Element Protection
Sunlight can damage the collagen and elastin of your skin, leading to more wrinkles. Sunlight can also cause various spots that are darker in color to form on your skin.
Apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily to save your skin from harmful UV rays. Use sunscreen with Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide whenever possible.
Consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat and avoid direct sunlight as much as possible. When sitting outside, enjoy the sunshine with the protection of an umbrella.
Dry, cold weather can cause problems for exposed skin. Use a moisturizer every day on your face, hands and body, while covering skin with gloves, scarves and other protective clothing.
2) Vitamins and Nutrients
To keep your skin healthy, eat plenty of foods with vitamins and anti-oxidants.
You can take a multivitamin to get these vitamins, but it’s best to get them through food whenever possible. Healthy eating will help your skin, along with important aspects of your health.
3) Sleep!
Cortisol is a hormone that breaks down skin cells. The body generates more of it when you don’t get enough sleep, so always do your best to get at least seven hours per night. If you’re struggling to get sleep, natural remedies like melatonin can be helpful!
4) Don’t Use Tanning Beds
Sometimes people believe tanning beds are safer than laying in the sun. They’re not! Tanning beds are dangerous because the bulbs use the same UVA rays found in the sun. If having a tan complexion is important to you, then it’s safer to use a self-tanner or get a spray tan.
5) Avoid Smoking
By now, you’re probably aware of the health problems caused by smoking. But when it comes to skin specifically, smoking can greatly increase and accelerate signs of aging, including the small lines around the mouth (also caused by overusing straws!)
Take Good Care of Yourself
Having a steady skin care regimen can help you reduce signs of aging, but it won’t stop it completely. The most important thing is that you’re taking care of your health, enjoying life and embracing those few wrinkles you have.
