What is Melanoma? Melanoma is a type of skin cancer. Melanoma can spread from the skin to other parts of your body, so it is considered the most serious form of skin cancer. The goal of Melanoma Monday is to raise Melanoma awareness to help reduce the occurrence of this deadly disease. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) is your best and most reliable resource for information on signs and symptoms of Melanoma. Summer Sun Safety
During the month of May, (and all year long), what can you do to help eliminate skin cancer, including Melanoma?
- Practice safe sun exposure
- Stay in the shade, wear sun screen, wear sun protective clothing
- Perform self-skin exams
- Identify any spots you consider strange or concerning. Keep the ABCDE’s of Melanoma in mind: Asymmetry, Border, Color, Diameter, Evolving.
